Spectacle

OSX doesn't give you the ability to open an app in fullscreen (without moving it to a new desktop) or to resize it to exactly the half of your screen. I find myself barely always working this way to be honest: IDE on the left with terminal at the bottom and chrome on the right with DevTool at the bottom.

Installation

  • https://www.spectacleapp.com/ and click on Download Spectacle
  • Once downloaded, you open the zip and drag the application to your Application folder.
  • Then you open it, the first time it will request you to grant some privileges to work, don't hesitate and give it what it wants.
  • You should now see a new icon in your top right corner

Usage

For any windows you have, you can move and size them with shortcuts:

  • cmd + alt + right arrow and the current window will stick to you right side of the screen and take all the size of the width
  • cmd + alt + left arrow same but to the left
  • cmd + alt + top arrow you have it
  • cmd + alt + bottom arrow ...
  • cmd + alt + F to take the full screen size (it's a bit different than the expand, green, button in the top left corner of a window)
